Exploiting the Internet for Entrepreneurs

A book 'Can you Trust the Media' has recently been published by Icon.

Adrian Monck, one of the co-authors starts from the premise that NO you can't and you never could. (That got my vote straight away - and from someone who spent 20 years in the industry I guess that seems a reasonable endorsement of the point!).

He goes on to express a point of view from which he does not believe that standards are falling but he does feel that an increasing lack of trust is a rational public response to ever less trustworthy media.

Staggeringly he suggests that "From a commercial point of view, trust is a worthless asset".

Monck is a former news producer for both ITV and Sky and is now a Professor at London 's City University.

Surely it precisely because of people like Monck (along with Morgan and Campbell of The Mirror to mention but two) that the media is so reviled!

On the Trust issue however - if the Media is a worthless asset - I wonder if he'd like to give back the considerable income he would have earned to prop up the ailing share price, particularly of ITV?

A while ago I read Andrew Marr's biography and was surprised to find him explaining the media would rather have a story people are engaged by than report the truth.

He's pretty frank the media don't see it as their job to tell the truth - it's their job to sell copies, ratings or the BBC's social engineering, depending on the paymaster.

Don't think this is a recent phenomena, but do think it's all been made much worse by Murdoch and his mates. Having said that I'd still rather watch Sky News than BBC news, but Sky comes behind Channel Four news.

Does that mean anything? Personally I never read newspapers, even on online (do read the Economist when traveling).

I get much more wound up by that lying crooked creep Brown and his sycophantic supporters.

Maybe that could be the subject of another thread - Name twenty politicians in descending order of how much you hate them?
