For the last year I've been concerned about the way traditional web marketing strategies aren't working so well any more.
Depending on your business of course Paid Search is probably not a good option, because the rest of the world has already figured out how to abuse it.
To me at least traditional SEO for regular marketing sites has had it as well. Google certainly is preferring "content" to marketing sites in Search listings so all that keyword mumbo jumbo won't get you on any page visitors are going to bother reaching.
SEO for blogs is probably a different matter, but Google ranks blogs on how highly rated they are by the community, so keywords on their own don't cut it here either.
Over the last few weeks we've been spending far too much time on social networking in just about every site we can get to. This is hard work, not least because most of the people we come across are either Internet Marketing "experts" or Life Coaches.
Having said that there are real possibilities for building your "brand" and a network of people who are interested in what you do.
Does this translate to business? The answer to that seems to be a positive YES, but with a couple of proviso's - 1) whatever it is you do, it has to stand up against competition and 2) the ways you present it have to be high quality and subliminal.
Actually it's very similar to the old "politicians" strategies for "working the room".
Take a little time to add value to other people's businesses and it's surprising what starts to come your way.
